Zen Precepts Study

  • Open Gate Zen Collective 466 E St Chula Vista United States (map)

Going for refuge to the three Jewels

Mondays 7 pm - 8:30 pm

Description
Open Gate Zen Collective  is offering a series of classes on the Buddhist precepts and the practice of “taking refuge” as part of preparation for those who want to receive the precepts in the Zen Buddhist Tradition. Precepts describe the intentions and actions of ethical living. They are not Commandments but invitations to see for oneself their impact upon our life. They are often described as gifts that we give to ourselves!
We will study, explore and discuss the precepts and how they apply to our lives and practice path. To commit to practice with precepts is part of the Eightfold Path training; it is the first step on the path to liberation.
Together we will investigate the questions: “What does it mean to live ethically?”  “What is the benefit to me and others of ethical conduct?” “What does commitment to precept training involve?”
Each class will open with a short period of meditation followed by an explanation and discussion.  The classes will cover the Three Refuges, the Three Pure Precepts and the Ten Bodhisattva precepts.
Classes facilitated by Sensei Jose Shinzan Palma.
Everyone is welcome to come to the classes. Even if you won’t receive the precepts in the ceremony.
